Makeup for Cool Undertoned Skin

Now that you have determined your undertone and what foundation shade suites your skin (If you don’t know what your undertone is, see my beauty blogpost: Foundation 103: Finding the Right Foundation Shade), let‘s chat about the colors you put on our face. This is what I like to call “the fun part.” Here is where you get to explore colors and be creative and hopefully have a little fun.

Let’s talk bronzers. You want to steer clear of anything golden or orange. Pick a bronzer that is pale brown, brown brown or maybe has a touch of pink. Try to find a shade that is two shades darker than your skin tone.

When it comes to blush, you can choose from a variety of colors like pale pink, pink, rose, mauve, berry tones and plum. If you have lighter skin, choose lighter colors from this range. Likewise, if you have darker skin, select colors from this range that are deeper. When you select from colors and ranges best suited for your skin tone, they will really compliment your beautiful natural features.

Eyeshadow is my favorite makeup item to play with because you can be creative with mixing and blending different colors. You can use the same blush colors listed above as eyeshadow to create a chic monochromatic look. You can also use cool browns, blues, blue-greens, teal, gray, and black. I love to use neutral colors on my lid and then pick a pop of color like teal or purple to apply along my lower lash line for something subtle yet fun.

For your lips, all the same blush colors can be used as well for your lipstick. Along with the pinks and berry colors, you can also wear a blue-based red. If you aren‘t used to wearing colorful lipstick but want to, I recommend wearing it at home first. Put it on and throughout the day, walk past the mirror. This way you get used to seeing yourself with color so that when you go out in public you can rock it confidently.

For you neutral undertone skinned gals, maybe pick a cool toned color you never thought to use before. You never know, you might find your new favorite! I recently put on a cool toned purple lipstick, something I normally wouldn’t reach for. But honestly, it’s now my new go to lippie. For my warm undertone gals, stay tuned for my next beauty blog post. I’ve got you.
